About me

I am research associate in the department of Computerphilology at Würzburg University, director of the Würzburg Research Centre for Digital Editing and lecturer in Digital Humanities as well as in Medieval History.

My research interests cover a wide range of topics in the emerging discipline of Digital Humanities. I am focusing though on computational methods and tools for historical research ("digital history"). Among other activities in this area, I am developing methods for the processing of complex historical texts, textual variation and genetics, digital editing and on advanced manuscript studies.

I am an active member of the Institute for Documentology and Scholarly Editing, a Germany-wide network of researchers in Digital Humanities amd Editor-In-Chief of the journal of the Digital Medievalist, an international community of practice.

I am supporting the work of the Text Encoding Initiative as co-chair of the Special Interest Group for Manuscript Encoding. Main activities in 2011: the organisation of the "2011 Conference and Members' Meeting" of the TEI as well as of a workshop of the European Science Foundation on "Digital Palaeography".
